Neurofascial Approach To Entrapment: Lower Extremity

Conditions like sciatica, obturator neuralgia, and pelvic floor pain often have a neurofascial driver — a pattern of inflammation, neural tension, and protective spasm. In this class you will learn to assess and treat systematically the nerves of the lower extremity and their fascial environment.

Fundamentally, we need to stop conceiving of nerves as ‘wires’ strung through a musculoskeletal world. Nerves and their related tissues precede the mature skeleton, and will drive muscular behavior for their own protection. We need a model that starts the physiologic needs of peripheral nerves -- ample circulation and free movement -- and then flexes with the various ecological crises that nerves encounter.

We need nerve palpation skills, and also a respect for the limits of palpation. We need neurodynamic tests that localize and characterize the entrapment at hand. We need a language that lets us work effectively with the whole healthcare team.

Muscle-bone concepts are not doing the trick — let’s get people better!

• Local Fascial anatomy of nerves in the lower extremity
• Lower extremity nerve mechanics
• Pathogenesis of Sciatica and related conditions
• Basic physiology of peripheral neuroinflammation
• Palpation of common sites of neurovascular entrapment
• Systematic assessment and treatment strategies for Sciatica and related conditions

• Writing materials
• Set of sheets and emollient
• Wear movement-friendly clothing

• This 8-hour Continuing Education class is open to all healthcare practitioners licensed in Manual/Massage Therapy.
