What is massage cupping (MC)?
Simply defined, "cupping" is a negative pressure massage. When used in conjunction with positive pressure it brings to your practice a well rounded and thorough approach. Via negative pressure, massage cupping lifts and separates adhered layers of tissue, restores blood flow, stimulates the lymphatic system, promotes deep relaxation, and facilitates healing in hypertonic tissue. MC facilitates myo-fascial release and removes adhesions with ease. Due to its wide application, many other therapies can greatly benefit from this technique including; physiotherapy, aromatherapy, reflexology, kinesiology, acupuncture, chiropractics, etc. MC's physical impact extends beyond that of traditional pressure massage as its pulling action engages the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting a deep full-tissue relaxation.
Why Massage Cupping?
This is a unique addition to your practice; the measurable results achieved are astounding and long lasting. MC is not yet widely practiced, so you would be providing a new and exciting type of bodywork to your existing client base as well as attracting new clients. This technique truly saves you time and energy. MC can be used as a supplement to your existing massage routines, an add-on to your current massage menu, or used alone. Many of your clients will become addicted to this amazing and transcending addition to your repertoire of skills and come back asking for it everytime. Additionally, use MC for self care. Its efficiency will amaze and surprise you time after time.
Students will learn the History of Cupping and how to talk to their clients and health care professionals about MC. Market MC to new, existing, and old clientele; as well as to other health care professionals to start a new referral program, from Dentists to PT's to Chiropractors and even pre/post surgical care.
You'll learn how to identify sites of caution, contraindications, and other times for which to avoid the use of massage cupping. Since each cup style has a specific protocol, students will learn a myriad of applications pertaining to each of the different cups (glass, silicone, and vacuum plastic). Students will be able to perform Abdominal MC techniques, as well as learn how to use massage cupping to treat pathologies such as frozen shoulder, TOS, TMJ disorders, headaches, removal of scar tissue, etc.
One of the benefits of cupping is that it clears the sebaceous (oil) glands and helps to clean debris from the epidermis while increasing bloodflow to the dermis. Students will learn how they can apply spa applications to their practice through the use of body wraps, essential oil applications, cellulite treatments, and facial cupping immediately after massage cupping when the skin's absorption capacity is at its greatest.
