Instructor: Marty Ryan, LMT; NCBTMB #451818-11
About this Class: In this module, we will explore optimizing the breath and its effect on the abdominal viscera. Since all of the abdominal organs are in motion when we breathe, we will explore specifically those organs that have direct attachments to the respiratory diaphragm and lumbar spine – the small and large intestines. This module will also include working with the muscles of respiration, mobilizing the ribs, and exploring the effects of the breath on the autonomic nervous system.
About Abdominal Palpation & Treatment Classes: These modules are designed to introduce the core and abdominal viscera to manual therapists. The series will explore how the abdomen and pelvis are built, and how to easily and fluently make contact with each of the tissue layers from the belly wall to the spine and from the respiratory diaphragm to the pelvic bowl and floor. From there, clinical treatment applications are discussed and practiced.
For many manual therapists, the pelvic and abdominal viscera are new frontiers and often under examined in a typical therapeutic session. Likewise, our clients often have no idea that manual therapy can be utilized here. This series is an excellent way to begin the journey of palpatory fluency and effective treatment for some of the most common clinical conditions that our clients present.
Each module is a stand alone course with no prerequisites.
